UPDATE: Police identify accident victim: Oxnard PD investigating fatal traffic accident at J and W Streets

rx times;”>On Thursday, January 22, 2015, at about 6:30 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the intersection of ‘J’ Street and Juniper Street in reference to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

When officers arrived at the collision scene, they found an unconscious male, identified later as 67 year old Oxnard resident, Laroy Frederick Magana, lying in the roadway. Soon after medical personnel arrived, Magana was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Pedestrian Magana was crossing ‘J’ Street near the intersection of Juniper Street with a shopping cart. The vehicle, a blue 1978 Chevrolet Custom 10 pick-up truck, driven by 57 year old Oxnard resident, Quirino Martinez Miranda, was traveling southbound on ‘J’ Street when it collided with Magana.

Excessive speed and alcohol or drug intoxication were not factors in this collision.

The collision is still under investigation.

The Oxnard Police Department is currently investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. today, Thursday, January 22nd. The collision happened on J Street and W. Juniper Street in Oxnard. An adult male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the scene. Police and EMS responded to the scene and attended to the injured pedestrian. Unfortunately, the subject was pronounced deceased by EMS at the scene. The Oxnard Police Department traffic unit is conducting the investigation.

All parties involved remained at the scene of the collision.

J Street is closed between Iris Street and Kamala Street while the investigation is being completed.
