Oxnard PD search for suspect in shooting death of 41 year old man

On Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at approximately 6:50 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a call of shots fired in the 200 block of Balsam Street. When they arrived they were advised that a male victim was transported by family members to St. John’s Hospital. The victim, in critical condition was taken from St. John’s via ambulance to VCMC. The victim, 41 year old Oxnard resident, Luis Amaro, was subsequently pronounced dead at VCMC as a result of an apparent gunshot wound.

Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was standing near or around his residence when he was confronted by an unknown suspect. Witnesses recall multiple gunshots being fired and a vehicle speeding away from the scene. The vehicle was described as an older model sedan possibly a dark colored Honda. As of this release, no suspect(s) have been identified and the motive remains unknown.
