Oxnard Police Department Traffic Stop Nets Illegal Firearms

On 10/6/2014, capsule at approximately 5:45am Monday morning, Oxnard police officers conducted a traffic stop on a gray Ford F150 on Thomas Avenue west of Cloyne Street. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for a felony warrant. A passenger in the vehicle was identified as 18 year old Victor Manuel Aguirre. Aguirre was found in possession of a loaded 38 caliber revolver. During a search of the vehicle officers located a loaded 12 gauge shotgun and drug paraphernalia in the rear passenger compartment of the vehicle. Aguirre was arrested for possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm with the serial number removed, and an outstanding felony warrant.

In an effort to address the recent increase in firearms-related crimes, Oxnard Police launched the Operation Safer and Stronger Initiative, as well as the Firearms Strike Team (FAST) led by the Violent Crimes Unit, to proactively remove firearms from prohibited persons within the city. The objective of the initiative and FAST is to reduce gun violence in Oxnard through education, intervention, and enforcement.
