Rice Ave.   “Everybody in the community, the first responders, clergy, we’re just tired of things going throughout the nation.  This city has a quarter million people and about 200 police officers.  We cannot do anything by ourselves.  We need the community.”

“We are here because we just want to love our neighborhood and our community. We just want to be part of what is happening around the world,” said Pastor Ray Carrillo of New Life Community Church.    “We want to serve them (officers) as well as our community.  We want to be in partnership with them.  We are behind them.  We know they have a tough job.”

New Life Community Church sponsored the July 9th Prayer Walk that more than 100 people participated in around La Colonia Village which had been planned prior to the violence that erupted last week across the nation against Philando Castille, of St. Paul, Minnesota; Alton Sterling, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and five Dallas police officers.

“Unity nor love is not possible without Jesus,” said Michael Hernandez, History Makers founder and an organizer of the Sat., July 16th “Prayer For America” Walk set to begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Oxnard Veterans Memorial (5th and C Street- Plaza Park).  “We need to join our voices with the one million gathering Saturday at Capitol Mall in Washington, DC. to pray for our nation.”

“This is the time for us to focus on both 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pry and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land; and Malachi 4:6: “And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers,” said Hernandez.
