Oxnard: Probation search of vehicle turns up .38 caliber revolver

On Sunday, August 16th, at 3:05 an Oxnard Police Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation near the intersection of Second Street and “A” Street. A records check revealed that the rear passenger was on searchable probation related to narcotics violations. The officer had the driver, 28 year old Oxnard resident, Jose Torres and the rear passenger 23 year old Oxnard resident, Horacio Juarez exit the vehicle to exercise the probation terms. During a search of the vehicle a Taurus .38 caliber revolver was found on the rear floorboard area where Juarez had been sitting. A records check revealed that the firearm was stolen in 2014 out of the Sheriff’s area(RB#14-7260). Jose Torres was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and possession of drugs. In an effort to address the increase in firearms-related crimes, the Oxnard Police Department launched the Operation Safer and Stronger Initiative, as well as the Firearms Strike Team (FAST) led by the Violent Crime Unit, to proactively remove firearms from prohibited persons within the city. The objective of this initiative and FAST is to reduce gun violence in Oxnard through education, intervention, and enforcement.
