    Oxnard Public Library BOOK TALK | Strategies of Segregation

    OXNARD, Calif. – The Oxnard Public Library is proud to host Oxnard native and resident Dr. David G. Garcia, associate professor in the UCLA Graduate School of Education on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m., at the Downtown Main Library located at 251 S A St.

    Dr. Garcia will discuss his research and findings that went into the writing of his book entitled, Strategies of Segregation: Race, Residence, and the Struggle for Educational Equality. The book documents a history of racially separate and unequal schooling for Mexican American and African American students in Oxnard, Calif. The presentation will highlight interviews of community members and former students who endured and challenged segregation.

    Dr. Garcia transferred from Oxnard College to UCLA, where he earned a B.A. in Sociology with a specialization in Chicana/o Studies, an M.A. in Latin American Studies, and a Ph.D. in U.S. History.
