On September 25, 2020 at approximately 2030 hours, Detectives from the Sheriff’s Gang Unit observed a wanted gang member from a local criminal street gang in the 1600 block of Oxnard Boulevard, in the city of Oxnard. Detectives identified the subject as Joel Mendoza and knew he had an active Ventura County felony warrant for Street Terrorism and Graffiti Vandalism. Mendoza is currently on Ventura County Post Release Offender Status (PROS) for a 2019 conviction for Street Terrorism and Graffiti Vandalism.
Detectives and Deputies from the Headquarters Patrol Station contacted Mendoza inside a vehicle that was parked along the frontage road of Oxnard Blvd. Mendoza was accompanied by two other male subjects, later identified to be Joshua Magdaleno and Andrew Robles. Mendoza was quickly arrested for his warrant without incident.
During the investigation, Magdaleno was found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic 9mm handgun. Detectives also located various amounts of narcotics packaged for sales, which included fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana. Magdaleno was arrested for several firearm and narcotic violations.
Robles was the driver of the vehicle and he was arrested for allowing a passenger to possess a loaded firearm in a vehicle. Robles was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
All three arrestees have ties to a local criminal street gang in Ventura County and were booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Facility. Mendoza is being held on $250,000 bail. Robles and Magdaleno are being held on $100,000 bail, pending future court appearances.
