Pasadena Revivalist Calls for “Jesus Fast for America”

MOLINE, ILLINOIS—Pasadena revivalist Lou Engle (Azusa Now organizer) issued a call for a “Jesus Fast for America” Saturday at an “An Appeal To Heaven” Conference April 28-30th sponsored by Dutch Sheets Ministries,.

“America can turn back to God” said Engle, the Azusa Now organizer. “The best defense is a good offense.  The ‘Jesus Fast’ is not a defensive fast but an offensive fast.”

“When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water:  and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.  And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.  Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.  And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.” (Matthew 3:16-4:2)

Engle, co-author with Dean Briggs of “The Jesus Fast:  The Call to Awaken the Nations” (2016) spoke of how fasting proceeded the ministry of Jesus and every move of God.  He cited examples of fasting coming before the healing revivals of 1946 and 1947; before Israel becoming a nation on May 14, 1948; the birth of the evangelistic ministry of Billy Graham in 1949; and the launch of Campus Crusade for Christ in 1951 at the University of California, Los Angeles by Bill Bright (who in 1996 called others to join him in prayer and fasting).

“Fasting has been the key to every move of God,” said Engle.   “The coming Jesus Fast will birth a new Jesus movement.  We will begin to shape history through prayer and fasting.”

“I’m calling the globe to 40 days fasts.  If Jesus fasted for 40 days we can too,” said Engle.   “This is the season when a grace is being released, a grace of fasting.   This is the season when the Spirit is driving His church into the wilderness.”

“This is the fast of the bride longing for Christ.  A generation will respond to this call and usher in the coming of the King,” said Engle.  “I believe we are going to see many fasting 40 days like Jesus, some will do the 21 day fast of Daniel, others will just fast as the Lord leads.”

Engle and Briggs new book (published by Chosen Books) on “The Jesus Fast” is divided into four sections:   “Preparing A Generation,” “Fasting Father and Fruitful Sons,” “From the Nazirite to the Nazarene,” and “Harvesting Every Nation.”

Engle, is co-founder of TheCall, Inc., a movement that seeks to shape history through both prayer and fasting.  Two prayer initiatives being promoted in the aftermath of Azusa Now (attended by 70,000 at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum on April 9th) are The Call’s War Room initiative taken from Psalm 149 and the Morovian Watch which is seeking intercessors willing to participate in the Night Watch.  For more info visit: TheCall.Com/Shift.
