NEWBURY PARK—“No pulpits are contending AB2943 because this is politics,” said Pastor and Mayor Pro-Tem Rob McCoy at the Wednesday 7 p.m. bible study on the Book of Corinthians at Godspeak Calvary Chapel, 2697 Lavery Ct., Thousand Oaks, CA 91320).  “Pastors don’t want to lose their congregants but if they are coming for me, they will leave because of me.  But if they are coming for Christ, we’re going to so some wonderful things,” said McCoy in reference to 150 pastors gathering in Sacramento on Monday to share their opposition to AB2943.

“God is driving the church into a corner where there is no escape except the message of a crucified life.  All substitutes will be exposed.  Right now, we see a spiritual decline.  Churches are closing at a rapid rate.  Yet, they have never had more bells and whistles—more machinery.  They are still ineffective in meeting the problems of the day and in confronting the worldly wise.”

McCoy described California as the state of:  “no-fault divorce, transgender bathrooms, and that leads the nation in abortions.”  He said, “We’ve had zero effect in the city.  Every vote we lose.  People are leaving California.  Every gimmick we’ve tried has had no fruit.

“We are concerned about being seen as political.  We favor remaining safe.  Only six percent of pastors address as many as six topics such as:  abortion, bioethics, self-governance, politics, Islam, media, senior citizens.

“Pastors say they just preach Jesus and just preach the gospel but it is a myopic gospel.  What does the Cross of Christ look like in every area of society?  To preach Jesus is fine.  But we need to preach what Jesus preached—Biblical truth—the Cross.

“When revival comes, we will find our lives revolutionized and our values turned upside down.  When  we seek first, the Lord in brokenness, we will see Calvary.   Paul wrote (in 1 Corinthians 2), “I am determined  to only know Jesus Christ and godly wisdom and to restrain from evil, pursue God and obtain excellence.”

(Editor’s Note:  Pastor McCoy introduced two guest speakers at Sunday’s Godspeak Calvary Chapel—Kevin McGary of the Douglass Leadership Institute and Dr. William Federer, president of Amerisearch, Inc.—both speaking Monday in Sacramento in the pastors gathering against  AB2943—stating that this law “is a violation of both the U.S. Constitution and the California Constitution” and “we the sovereign must hold our legislators accountable.”)
