    PHPD Arson Arrest

    News Release

On Monday, February 13, 2023, at approximately 4:05 PM, officers from the Port Hueneme Police Department were notified of a subject disturbing adults and children at Bubbling Springs Park near the baseball fields in the 1100 block of Park Avenue. The call for service was immediately upgraded to a “Code 3” response when the suspect jumped onto the bed of a City of Port Hueneme Facilities Department truck and set it on
    fire.

The two employees who were inside the truck at the time were able to exit the vehicle and use a fire extinguisher to put out the large flames that ignited in the rear bed. The suspect immediately fled eastbound on Bard Road crossing “J” Street and ran directly towards a group of juveniles. As Port Hueneme Police Officers arrived, several bicyclists and other witnesses directed the officers toward the suspect.

Officers continued to pursue the suspect who ran north on “G” Street in the City of Oxnard until they apprehended him on Grant Way. The suspect was later identified as Robert Lopez, Jr., 31 years of age from Oxnard. Lopez, Jr. was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Felony Vandalism, and Arson. He has numerous prior arrests and is listed as a serious habitual offender in the County Jail system.

Starna at the Port Hueneme Police Department (805) 844-0474 or email at
