Nominations are being accepted for 2020 Dons and Doñas. Individuals who have lived in the Camarillo, Somis or Santa Rosa Valley for the past 20 years and have provided outstanding community service can be nominated for this honor.
The designation began in Early California days as the title given to community leaders. Adolfo Camarillo (1864 – 1958) was considered the “last of the Spanish Dons”. For the past 50 years, the Society has honored the pillars of the community as Dons and Doñas. Some are members of pioneer families, others made a difference in the community through their professional and volunteer efforts. For many, it is a proud accomplishment to be named a Don or Doña. Since 1964 over 400 people have been given this honor. The awards will be presented at the Society’s annual BBQ on August 22 at the Camarillo Community Center.
