A local non-profit, which also serves as a transitional housing center and rehabilitation program for those facing mental illness, needed to temporarily house veterans for up to six months but unfortunately had no room to spare. The City Center was happy to step in.

“A local non-profit came to me and asked if I could house 14 families,” explained Jim Duran, Executive Director of The City Center and Pastor at the River Community Church. “I had the space, but could not take in the families until the rooms were renovated.”

With the help of its safe and secure PODS containers, the families will be able to store their belongings while 11 of the 19 rooms are being renovated. The $25,000- renovation project will include pouring concrete, installing sinks and painting the rooms.

“PODS is honored to help out The City Center in their efforts to offer a hand-up to the homeless veterans who have loyally served our country,” said Steve Yapp, owner of PODS of Tri-Counties. “They are a wonderful organization that does so much, without the use of government assistance, to provide these families with housing, food and financial coaching so that they become self-sufficient.”

“Many community partners including, 30-50 Seabees, will work throughout the week of the moving phase. Home Depot, Trinity Lutheran Church, Lowes, Coast Water Solutions and the Andrew Project have all stepped in to help with various aspects of the project,” said Duran. “We are truly grateful.”

In addition to the donation of its PODS containers, PODS of Tri-Counties will donate $1 to the City Center for every new ‘like’ they receive on its Facebook page.
