And then there was one.
Back in 2019, there were 20, count ‘em, 20 Democratic candidates for President. There were so many the initial candidate debates in June and July had to be divided into two teams of ten. By September, the field had been cut in half, with only 12 candidates invited to participate in a one-night event in October.
Gone and easily forgotten were: Bill de Blasio, Tim Ryan, Jay Inslee, John Delaney, Marianne Williamson, John Hickenlooper, Kirsten Gillibrand, Michael Bennet and Eric Swalwel. By November, Castro and O’Rourke were history. Then they started dropping like flies.
By December, the Democrats lost Booker and two of the four remaining women; Gabbard and Harris. Steyer, Buttigieg, and Klobuchar all dropped out after poor showings in the South Carolina primary in February. Warren and Bloomberg (remember Mike?) also quit the race after Super Tuesday on March 3rd. With Sanders dropping out today, the Democrats have achieved what they wanted all along;

There never really was any doubt from the very start of the primary season that the DNC wanted Biden. Why else would he have agreed to run in the first place with their full support? In spite of what the polls showed, in spite of what the early primary returns were indicating and most important, what the media was reporting about “front runners” Sanders and Warren and just about everyone else in the Democratic field and in spite of the fact, at 77 years old, Biden is the oldest candidate to run for President!
It was obvious it was always Biden the Democratic Party establishment wanted as their nominee.
Since Trump won the election in 2016, the Democrats have pulled every trick they could think of to remove him from office. Instead of finding and grooming a qualified candidate to run against him in 2020, they wasted the past four years with unsubstantiated Russian conspiracy theories and unsuccessful impeachment hearings.
As a result; when the Democratic Presidential primary smoke cleared, Joe Biden was the last man standing, (or sitting as the case may be).
The Republicans and Trump couldn’t be happier.
But they shouldn’t start the celebration yet. With the right Vice President running mate on the ticket, there might be a chance, however slight, that Trump could lose in November. With a woman on the ticket, Biden might just be able to make history and win.
While the tactic didn’t work for John McCain’s presidential bid in 2008 when he picked Sarah Palin, Biden would have to choose a competent, experience running mate. Biden has an excellent choice between two dynamic former Presidential candidates; Amy Klobuchar and Kamala Harris.
A Biden-Harris ticket would almost guarantee the Democrats will have a formidable woman presidential candidate in 2024 and, without an incumbent to run against, SHE WILL GET ELECTED. Glass ceiling shattered, balloons dropping, and VICTORY parades in the streets of America!
So, the new math could look like this:
Biden + Harris –Trump = President Kamala Harris!
Or
Biden + Klobuchar -Trump = President Amy Klobuchar!
More than likely, Trump will be re-elected in November and the Democratic Party will have to wait another four years to celebrate a woman’s presidential win.
Either way, no matter who is on the Democratic ticket in November, I’m voting Libertarian!
