Politically Incorrect Zone: Drones for Christmas

viagra 40mg times;”>Political correctnessBy Kevin Harris

Christmas Day, 2014. Millions of Americans have already opened their presents from under their trees or after lighting their Menorahs and are celebrating with their loved ones. No doubt, some of those presents were remote controlled drones, or “quadcopters.” But according to recent reports, the FAA is not thrilled.

The FAA says they are concerned primarily with safety; both of the drone operators and of people on the ground and of planes in the air. According to the agency, they’ve been receiving about 25 reports per month of drones sighted flying near manned aircraft or airports. They believe a drone can cause a commercial or military aircraft to crash.

While I certainly share their concerns about the misuse of drones near places like airports, I also have those same concerns regarding laser pointers, remote control helicopters, and high-powered rifles. Drones can be misused by criminals, like almost anything else. But it’s also important to remember that most drones sold today are essentially toys, with a maximum height range of 100-400 feet (though it’s true the level of sophistication is improving while prices drop).

I mention all of this because there are some in Congress, along with the FAA, who are calling for regulating drones, by way of licensing, among other things. I want to be clear, that I am open to that idea for truly large commercial drones – truly unmanned aircraft. Gas-powered vehicles such as the ones used in warfare overseas or similar. But for all the rest, like the ones many of us found under our Christmas Trees last night, we must say “NO” to such attempts at regulation!

Aside from being fun toys for our families, drones are also invaluable tools for many small businesses, and can serve as an important “birds-eye” view for people who normally wouldn’t have such a view. And who knows? Maybe THAT is part of what the government doesn’t like about drones as well. From my point of view, we should be much more concerned with how the government is using drones against US than the other way around!

That is another reason to be sure to participate in one’s own home State, and town when these kind of things come up. Federals want to tax and/or regulate us in our own States over things like this. We have to be diligent about showing up with our voices.
Love the article. Point is ‘dead’ on. Keep America Free!
