POLITICS | Garcia Calls on Smith to Oppose Nationalizing Job Killing AB5

Garcia co-sponsors legislation to stop nationalizing Smith stands by law killing CA jobs
Valencia, CA – Congressman Mike Garcia today called on liberal Christy Smith to oppose Washington liberals’ push to nationalize her signature legislation AB5, which is crushing thousands of jobs throughout California and threatening to force Uber and Lyft out of the state.

“Christy Smith’s signature legislation AB5 is killing literally thousands of jobs here in California – it’s time for her to make it clear she will not support nationalizing this legislation which would lead to untold job losses across the country,” said Garcia.

Despite Washington liberals who are backing Smith’s election pushing for a national version of the jobs-killing bill, Mike Garcia recently co-sponsored a bill that will preempt similar laws at the federal level.

“Services like Uber and Lyft have meant a reduction in DUI’s and serve as a vital mode of transportation for senior citizens, but Smith’s AB5 is pushing those companies to the brink of closure,” Garcia added. “Nationalizing Smith’s bill would be devastating for America’s economy – voters deserve to know where she stands.”

Mike Garcia believes in a strong national defense and is a pro-business, pro-taxpayer, political outsider with nearly 20 years of service to this country as one of the first Super Hornet strike fighter pilots in the Navy and is a highly decorated US Naval Officer.  Garcia is a first-generation American whose father immigrated to the US in 1959 and has lived in the 25th district for nearly all of his life.  Garcia lives in Santa Clarita with his wife and two sons. He was elected to Congress on May 12, 2020, winning a Special Election with 55% and becoming the first California Republican to flip a Democrat seat since 1998.

The 25th district encompasses the cities of Santa Clarita, Simi Valley, Palmdale, Lancaster and the northern part of the San Fernando Valley.  The median income is $76,866 and the ethnic breakdown is 45.8% White, 8% Black, 7.7% Asian and 35.3% Hispanic.
