The Road to Tyranny by Don Jans

Politics | In Lead-up to National Flag Week, Garcia Leads Volunteers in Assembling Care Packages for Veterans

Santa Clarita, CA – As the United States celebrates Women Veterans Day and prepares to honor its heritage and the sacrifices of those who served to protect and defend our country, Congressman Mike Garcia (R, CA-25) today led a team of volunteers in assembling and delivering care packages for veterans across the 25th district as part of his June Saturday of Service event.

“Our veterans and their families have made countless sacrifices so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today,” said Garcia. “The least we can do is make sure they have what they need when they return home. I’m proud of Team Garcia’s continued focus on putting local veterans first, and I hope our work here today will make life a little easier for the heroes of the 25th district.”

The day began with Congressman Garcia and 20 of his dedicated volunteers working to assemble the care packages at his SCV headquarters and ended with the delivery of the packages to the Simi Valley VFW Military History Museum, in addition to locations in Santa Clarita and the Antelope Valley.

Today’s Saturday of Service follows Team Garcia’s April food drive to assist the SCV Food Pantry in supporting local families and a May blood drive to help blood banks recover from shortages due to the pandemic.

Team Garcia’s focus on charity, especially related to local veterans, is a hallmark of their campaign. Even as they were forced to adapt to comply with pandemic restrictions, Garcia and his hundreds of volunteers remained active in the community. And as local families and businesses struggled to cope with COVID and California’s strict lockdown policies, Congressman Garcia doubled down on his commitment to the community, personally donating to local non-profits supporting CA-25 veterans, law enforcement officersstudents in need, and those struggling with cancer.

Mike Garcia believes in a strong national defense and is a pro-business, pro-taxpayer, political outsider with nearly 20 years of service to this country as one of the first Super Hornet strike fighter pilots in the Navy and is a highly decorated US Naval Officer.  Garcia is a first-generation American whose father immigrated to the US in 1959 and has lived in the 25th district for nearly all of his life.  Garcia lives in Santa Clarita with his wife and two sons. He was elected to Congress on May 12, 2020, winning a Special Election with 55% and becoming the first California Republican to flip a Democrat seat since 1998.

The 25th district encompasses the cities of Santa Clarita, Simi Valley, Palmdale, Lancaster and the northern part of the San Fernando Valley.  The median income is $76,866 and the ethnic breakdown is 45.8% White, 8% Black, 7.7% Asian and 35.3% Hispanic.
