SANTA PAULA, CA – Joe S. Ramirez, resident of Fillmore, kicked off his campaign for Ventura County Community College Trustee, Area 3 at Ventura College’s East Campus in Santa Paula. In his remarks, Joe discussed how he wants to put his experience to work in a college district in a state of disarray. Joe has spent his entire career in addressing inequities in education, starting as an Upward Bound and TRiO counselor and eventually working his way up to dean and vice-president of student support services at Oxnard College and Mission College in Los Angeles, respectively.
“I am running for Trustee because I am not satisfied with the disparities in student services between the colleges, low student success rates, high turnover in staff, and threats to the district’s accreditation,” said Joe Ramirez. “I cannot stand in the sidelines and watch the dreams and aspirations of our students get dashed due to a lack of leadership and broken promises. The Ventura County Community College District needs new leadership and a change in direction.”
Joe S. Ramirez is a graduate of Fillmore High School and received an Associate of Arts Degree from Moorpark College, earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and received his Master’s Degree in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Today, Joe continues to work with students as an educational consultant. He is currently heading a team of educators that work with at-promise 10th grade students and Seniors at Santa Paula High School. He and his wife Leticia are also proud parents of Marisol Estrella, a fourth-year student at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
