POLITICS | Will Berg Launches Campaign for City of Hueneme

Port Hueneme – Port Hueneme City Council Member Will Berg has announced his candidacy for re-election to the Port Hueneme City Council.

A 20-year resident of the city of Port Hueneme, Berg was named the city’s ‘Citizen of the Year’ in 2014.  “My earlier public agency experience and current board positions have allowed me to successfully interact with other elected leaders at local, county, state and federal levels regarding issues vital to our city.

“Four years ago, Hueneme was struggling with finances, management turnover and reputation concerns. Today none of these are true. “As a commissioner for both the Ventura County Transportation Commission and the Gold Coast Transit District I have worked to bring infrastructure and transportation improvements to our city. I will work to promote cooperation and better communication with all our community, civic leaders and partners,” Berg said.

“I am committed to continuing enhancing partnerships as we build a solid base for our future while keeping our citizens safe and I will continue to dedicate myself to bridging the social and economic gaps between the various local jurisdictions that are critical in moving us forward,” said Berg.

“I’m excited about the successes enjoyed by the city of Port Hueneme, made possible by today’s stronger economic position,” Berg continued. “I care about our community and want to continue to leverage the resources of the Port and the Naval Base to generate a stronger economic impact for the City.”

A third generation south Oxnard native, Berg attended Moorpark College and California State University at Chico before studying at the National Political Science University in Taipei Taiwan.  He completed an M.A. degree in Comparative and International Politics at the Monterey Institute of International Studies Monterey California and served two years in South Korea with the United States Peace Corps.

In 1978, capitalizing on his excellent Mandarin, Will began escorting various North American groups visiting China, making him among some of the earliest North Americans to step behind the Bamboo Curtain. Will has lectured aboard cruise ships calling on Asian destinations along the Pacific Rim and spent 15 years as a shore excursion specialist with some of the world’s most prestigious cruise lines.
