(OJAI, CA — October 2, 2019) Almost everyone knows someone struggling with cancer, or in remission. These survivors need support not just from family and friends, but the community. Ojai CARES is the community’s only comprehensive cancer resource center, serving over 300 individuals since its inception in 2013.
To extend their services and provide support to more people in the valley, Ojai CARES is holding a fundraiser at Topa Mountain Winery, on Saturday, October 12 from 4 to 7 pm featuring a concert by pop/country music artist PI3RCE. Many may know PI3RCE (previously known as Olivia Pierce) as Asunta Fleming’s very talented daughter. Word has it Asunta will be joining her daughter for a song or two.
Admission is free though they hope to tempt you with auction items, hats by Satya Twena, and any generous donations. Topa Winery is donating a portion of all sales to the nonprofit.
PI3RCE is a rising pop artist from Los Angeles, California, who moved to Nashville in 2018 to pursue her love of country music. However, her artistry remained conflicted, and she has been making her way through the valleys of alternative, country, and now landing in new-age pop where she feels she has the most freedom for creative expression. Her most recent track “Like Kylie” has a boppy, country-pop style, and while the message seems frivolous on first listen, Olivia explains there is another layer to the lighthearted tune.
“When I wrote this song, my life was falling apart, but I looked at successful people to inspire me to keep pushing forward. That’s the kind of positive spirit I wanted “Like Kylie” to capture.” Hitting 30,000 streams on Spotify last month, it seems many others connect with the hidden meaning as well.
October is Cancer Awareness Month so open your hearts, enjoy a late afternoon party on Saturday, and help support Ojai CARES, a much-needed local nonprofit.
