Port Hueneme City Manager Accepts Position in Jurupa Valley

City Manager Rod Butler has accepted a position with the City of Jurupa Valley in Riverside County. Rod started his career with the City of Port Hueneme during a very tumultuous time in November of 2016. The City was facing many difficult challenges which included a structural budget deficit, legal issues, and personnel issues.  During his three-year tenure, Butler navigated the City through some complex problems and issues which have improved the city’s reputation. Butler enabled the City to recover from economic hardships leading the City to a balanced budget with a surplus for the first time in over ten years.

Butler told staff, “I am leaving at a very good time for the City, handing off the reins to a new City Manager (still to be chosen by Council) who will inherit a strong Council and staff that is willing to work together for our citizens. I am proud of the work we have done together. “

Mayor Will Berg added, ‘Rod Butler was the right person at the right time for our city.  We were very lucky to have him at the helm during our rebuilding and we wish him well and know he’ll be an asset for the city of Jurupa Valley.  The recruiting process is well underway and we already have heard from several exciting candidates.’

Rod Butler was presented with a City Resolution on December 2, thanking him for his years of service and recognizing him for his many accomplishments during this time. The City Council has asked Police Chief Andrew Salinas to serve as Interim City Manager while the recruitment for a permanent City Manager is coordinated over the next few months. Police Chief Andrew Salinas will serve as both Interim City Manager and the Chief of Police.
