Port Hueneme Hires New City Manager

The City of Port Hueneme is very pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Brad Conners as its next City Manager. Mr. Conners comes to Port Hueneme with a wealth of leadership experience in both the private and military sector. Mayor Laura Hernandez stated, “We are very excited to welcome Mr. Connors to the position of City Manager. Brad will bring leadership organizational management, and vision to his role as the City’s top executive.”

Mr. Conners has considerable amount of private industry experience as a Senior Executive for Northrop Grumman Aerospace where he guided the company in strategy and business development. Brad is also Chief Executive Officer of Pharos Leadership where he has provided executive services and guidance to struggling companies including work force management, labor relationship strategies, budget analysis, risk management, and strategic communication. In short, he is known in the private sector for transforming troubled or financially distressed businesses into successful enterprises.

Mr. Conners holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from California Lutheran University; a Master of Arts Degree in National Security & Strategic Studies from the College of Naval Warfare; and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Operational Analysis from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.

Brad Conners spent over 30 years in the military as he began his distinguished career in 1978. As a Navy Strike Fighter, Brick amassed over 4500 flight hours and nearly 1000 carrier landings during multiple combat deployments. Brad provided leadership and instruction to two of the Navy’s elite air power training organizations – the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center also known as Top Gun and to Naval Strike Force Training Pacific. Brad’s other operational assignments have included Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

US Navy Captain Brad “Brick” Conners finished his military career in 2009 as Commanding Officer at Naval Base Ventura County – one of the largest and complex navy bases in the world and home to a variety of the Navy’s most critical units and directorates.  As Chief Executive Officer of NBVC from 2005-2009, Brad led over 17,000 sailors, enlisted, and civilian personnel at one of the military’s most strategic bases. He was recognized for his environmental stewardship, his joint collaborations with the Port, and his community outreach programs that created a mechanism for military and community leadership to resolve shared problems.

Brad currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Ventura County Leadership Academy.  He is also a recent author of a leadership book titled “Fighter Pilot Parent”.  Brad believes good leadership drives every successful outcome, and good parenting is no different. Brad explained in his book, “Every parent wants the same: to have our children take off into the world and its adventures, but to return home safely at the end of the day.” He highlights the four most powerful adversity defenses – Faith, Family, Friends, and Fun.

Mayor Pro Tem Sylvia Munoz Schnopp stated, “We are very excited to welcome Brad as an addition to our team, and consider him a true leader in our region. He’ll be instrumental in shaping our city’s future growth, enhancing strategic alliances, developing a relationship-based culture, and setting an example of “service over self”. We are blessed to have his expertise, and I, and my colleagues, look forward to working with him as our new city manager.”

The Port Hueneme City Council approved an agreement appointing Brad “Brick” Conners as the new City Manager during its most recent City Council meeting. He will begin his duties on February 19, 2020 with a starting annual salary of $187,200.
