Port Hueneme PD arrest Felon for No Bail Warrant on Sexual Assault

On October 31, 2017 at about 1:00 PM, a citizen contacted the Port Hueneme Police Department reporting an erratic driver in a Mercedes sedan southbound Ventura Road at Bard Road. Responding officers could not safely catch up to the vehicle due to extremely high traffic conditions until northbound Ventura Road at Wooley Road.

The officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver, later identified at Denzel Edward Sanchez, 18 years of age, from Oxnard, accelerated to a speed of about 80 miles per hour. Sanchez drove in the center turn lane and at one point crossed into the  southbound lanes of Ventura road.

The pursuit was cancelled for the safety of the public and Sanchez continued at a high rate of speed northbound Ventura Road. Sanchez also ran the red light at Doris Avenue and Ivywood Street.

A citizen contacted the police department after they saw Sanchez park his car in the  area of Lodgewood Way, Oxnard. Officers from the Port Hueneme Police Department and the Oxnard Police Department responded to the area and Sanchez who, who was outside of the vehicle immediately fled on foot going through various backyards in the neighborhood.

A passenger in Sanchez’ vehicle was stopped at which point the officers were able to identify Sanchez as the driver. A record check on Sanchez showed he had active warrants for his arrest, including a no bail warrant for felony sexual assault.

A perimeter was established and after a search of several residences, Sanchez was located and again attempted to flee the area. With the assistance of a K-9 from the Oxnard Police Department, Sanchez was taken into custody.

Sanchez was charged with felony evading for putting the lives of the public in danger while driving a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and also for the no bail felony sexual assault warrant.

Sanchez was booked into the Ventura County Jail.
