The Port Hueneme Senior Luncheon that was almost cancelled due to city fiscal issues, was saved by the donations of citizens and numerous groups/organizations. The luncheon went on as scheduled and was a tremendous success for the seniors that attended and the city spirit that was lifted very high for the first time in a number of years.

The attending seniors expressed their sincerest thanks to all that made the event continue its 25+ years of a grateful thank you to the longtime residents of Port Hueneme, many that have no where else to be with others to celebrate the holiday season. Enough money was raised to continue the luncheon for next year and hopefully donations will continue to keep the Senior Luncheon going on for many more years.

Special thanks should be giving to the donors and volunteers that worked to make the luncheon such a wonderful experience. The following did a wonderful job to make the luncheon perfect and make so many seniors happy for the holidays. Jim Hensley for initiating the public donations to finance the luncheon, REACH and Steven Gama for working and organizing the whole effort, Carmen Nichols for coordinating all aspects of the city and volunteers efforts, Matt and Debby from the community center for their organizational job and their assistants. Volunteers that helped serve were Mayor Tom Figg, Pro-Tem mayor Jim Hensley, council member Will Berg, Steven Gama, Rich Rollins and Tony Suielman from State Farm Insurance. All of these and others made this luncheon possible and should be thanked for their concern and efforts.

“Hello Port Hueneme” videoed the luncheon and interview various participants and the video can be seen below:

Thanks to all of the Next Door Port Hueneme members that helped and supported the donations and efforts to make the Senior Luncheon one of the reasons Port Hueneme is still “the friendly city by the sea”
