Post-fire debris flow community safety meetings scheduled

VENTURA, Calif. – A series of community debris flow safety meetings have been scheduled at locations around the Thomas Fire burn area.

The Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services, in cooperation with other city and county agencies, the U.S. Forest Service and Cal Fire, has identified 10 zones around the burn area which may be subject to post-fire debris or mud flows. The zones vary depending on their geology, slope and other factors, so residents are encouraged to attend the meeting for their zone.

Each meeting will include in-depth descriptions of the analysis which took place to determine the mud and debris flow risks created by the fire. Speakers will discuss alert and warning notifications; evacuation areas and terminology; and community and personal emergency preparedness. Spanish-language translators and sign language interpreters will be available at all of the meetings.

Additional meetings are being considered for residents in the city of Ventura, but no dates have been set. Affected residents should plan on attending one of the scheduled meetings and monitor the Ventura County Recovers website and the website for the City of Ventura for any further updates.

Reuniones programadas sobre la seguridad de la comunidad porel flujo de desechos después del incendio

VENTURA, Calif. –Se han programado una serie de reuniones sobre la seguridad de la comunidad por el flujo de desechos en lugares alrededor de las zonas quemadas durante el Incendio Thomas.

La oficina de Servicios de Emergencia del Sheriff, en cooperación con otras agencias de la ciudad y del Condado, el servicio forestal de los E.E.U.U. y Cal Fire, ha identificado 10 zonas alrededor del área del incendio que podrían estar sujetas al flujo de escombros o lodo después del incendio. Las zonas varían dependiendo de su geología, pendiente y otros factores, por lo que se recomienda a los residentes a que asistan a la reunión para su zona.

Cada reunión incluirá descripciones detalladas del análisis que se llevó a cabo para determinar los riesgos del flujo de lodo y escombros creados por el incendio. Los conferencistas discutirán las notificaciones de alerta y aviso; áreas de evacuación y terminología; y la preparación personal y comunitaria en caso de emergencia. Contaremos con la presencia de intérpretes en español e intérpretes de lenguaje de señas en todas las reuniones.
