Post-Fire Drone Flight over Ondulando-Clearpoint Neighborhoods in Ventura

The shot with the fire truck going down the road is the lower part of our street.
Our front fence was burned and the rear of the house was singed, but the firemen saved our house.  But all 10 barns and stalls were completely burned.  All things considered, I feel quite lucky and blessed.  We spent well over a week living in our motor-home before the national guard let everyone back in our neighborhood.
Nancy and I were in bed when I got a call from a friend who operates a short-wave emergency volunteer program at our stables.  I loaded Nancy, the grand-kids and our dog into her car and told her to wait while I drove the truck up to the stables.  The wind was howling and the fire was moving fast to the west (laterally) about a mile away, so I thought we would be okay.  But a fire truck arrived and they ordered me to leave.  I still don’t understand how it happened, but the fire took a 90 degree turn and took out the stables and all the houses below that you can see on the drone view.
We drove to Oxnard and parked behind a strawberry field.  I stayed up all night watching the fire burn all the foothills from east Ventura to the west.  Quite a show!
The next morning I wanted to see if our house made it, so I evaded the cops and firemen and hiked up on foot to see if we still had a house.  As I walked up our street, most of the houses were gone and smoldering and there were still some small fires here and there.  The whole experience was surreal as I walked up alone viewing the devastation and wondering if our house survived.  Our place made it and so did our close neighbors; thanks to the firemen taking a stand there.
