Public encouraged to donate boots and shoes for homeless veterans through July 25, 2016

The Oxnard Fire Department, in partnership with Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, will accept donations through Monday, July 25, 2016, at each of the following locations:

  • Station 1: 491 S. K St.
  • Station 2: 531 E. Pleasant Valley Rd.
  • Station 3: 150 Hill St.
  • Station 4: 230 W. Vineyard Ave.
  • Station 5: 1450 Colonia Rd.
  • Station 6: 2601 Peninsula Rd.
  • Station 7: 3300 Turnout Park Circle
  • Station 8: 3000 S. Rose Ave.

Members of the public can also drop off donations at the Oxnard Police Department, 251 S. C St.

The donated boots and sneakers will be distributed July 29-31, 2016, during the Ventura County Stand Down event at the California National Guard Armory, 1270 Arundell Ave. in Ventura, Calif. During the event, homeless veterans and their immediate families are offered a myriad of free services including haircuts, medical assistance and eye exams.

The organizers for the Ventura County Stand Down event encourage veterans to pre-register for the event, but registration is not required. Pre-registration is offered at the following Oxnard locations:

  • Catholic Charities, 402 N. A St.
  • Ventura County Rescue Mission, 234 E. Sixth St.
  • Community Action of Ventura County, 621 Richmond Ave.
  • America’s Job Center, 1400 Vanguard Dr.

My Church does this on an ongoing basis. We also join with other Churches in feeding and housing homeless people during the coldest months of the year.

Both the Fire Department and Ms. Irwin would be applauded for this.
