    Raising Hopes – Housing Opportunities for People with Special Needs Fundraiser

    Ventura County Housing Trust Fund (VCHTF) is proud to announce the date of its annual fundraising event with a focus on Housing Opportunities for People with Special Needs, on Thursday, September 22, 2016, 5:00-8:30 p.m., at the historic Camarillo Ranch, Camarillo, CA.  It is sure to be an evening not to miss!

    Keynote speaker will be Dr. Joshua Bamberger, MD, MPH, a foremost practicing physician aiding people living with poverty, homelessness, mental illness and disabilities. He is a leading national expert on the links between housing and health. With the San Francisco Department of Public Health, Dr. Bamberger coordinates all medical and behavioral health services for over 1750 tenants in supportive housing programs. Dr. Bamberger is the Chief Medical Consultant for Mercy Housing, a Special Advisor to the United States Interagency on Homelessness, an attending physician for the VA, and an Associate Clinical Professor at UC San Francisco’s Family Medicine Department and the Center for Excellence in Primary Care. 

    The evening will also include:

    • entertainment by the amazing 22 year old composer and multi-instrumentalist Rachel Flowers who’s life story recently premiered in the documentary “Hearing is Believing” (http://www.rachelflowersfilm.com/main/);
    • a testimonial from a special-needs young adult living on his own for the first time in supportive housing;
    • a BBQ dinner with appetizers, wine and beer; and
    • auction of five “community-building baskets” to be enjoyed by the 39 residents of Castillo del Sol, new supportive affordable apartments in Ventura for adults with special needs.

    Funds raised at the event will support developments that create new affordable housing in Ventura County, such as the Castillo del Sol apartments. The Housing Trust Fund helps finance multi-family homes for low to moderate income families and individuals with priority given to projects that create housing opportunities for Homeless, Veterans, Farm-workers, and Transitional-aged Foster Youth.

    Tickets purchased in advance are $55 each or two for $100. Guests are encouraged to purchase an extra ticket to be donated to local organizations working with people with special needs.     JBambergerDr. Joshua Bamberger, MD, MPH is a foremost practicing physician aiding people living with poverty, homelessness, mental illness and disabilities since 1989. With the San Francisco Department of Public Health, Dr. Bamberger coordinates all medical and behavioral health services at the health department’s supportive housing programs, serving over 1750 tenants. He helped establish the first integrated health clinic designed to serve people in supportive housing and was a Special Advisor to the United States Interagency on Homelessness. Dr. Bamberger is the Chief Medical Consultant for Mercy Housing assisting with policy to bridge the gap between housing and healthcare as well as an attending physician at the Downtown VA health clinic. Dr. Bamberger is the 2015 recipient of the Beverlee Myers Excellence in Public Health Leadership Award given annually by the California Department of Public Health.  Dr. Bamberger is an Associate Clinical Professor at UC San Francisco’s Family Medicine Department and the Center for Excellence in Primary Care.

     

    RachelFlowersRising star Rachel Flowers has lived most of her young life in Ventura County. The 22 year old composer and multi-instrumentalist has performed with numerous local jazz musicians, as well as a growing number internationally known performers including Taylor Eigsti, Arturo Sandoval, and Dweezil Zappa. Rachel is slated to perform in the upcoming International Festival Jazz Plaza in Havana, Cuba, and is also the subject of the documentary “Hearing is Believing”, by award winning Ventura filmmaker Lorenzo DeStefano (http://www.rachelflowersfilm.com/main).
