A rally was held Sunday, April 22nd, in front of the Federal Building in Westwood.  Attendees, numbering close to 200 people at its peak, lined the sidewalk and occupied all four corners of the intersection at Wilshire Blvd. and Veteran Ave.

The organizers were surprised by the reactions of passing motorists.  There were a great many thumbs up and honking to show support, much more than for past events.  Of course, the gathering garnered some flip offs and few f*** you’s, which apparently is what the organizers were expecting.  However, with the large turnout, no opposition present and the reception that they were getting for the most part, the event hosts thought it showed some movement of the political needle, even if minute in scale.

The biggest issue for those present was SB 54, California’s Sanctuary state law.  That issue along with the rise in illegal immigration worried many there.  People from varied backgrounds expressed concern for public safety and the state’s social services that are already overburdened.

Leonor Ferris, who immigrated legally from Columbia, said she had to pass a health test coming to this country.  She has spoken at several local council meetings urging elected officials to support the Trump Administration’s  lawsuit against SB 54.  Locally Simi Valley passed a resolution at their April 23rd council meeting to file an Amicus brief, Simi Valley voted unanimously to support the United States vs CA with an amicus brief.

Supporters ranged from African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Jewish-Americans, women for Trump, really Americans all.

Candidates were also present. David Hernandez running for Lt. Governor along with Benito Benny Bernal who is challenging the Democratic incumbent, Tony Cardenas in the 29th Congressional District. Paul Taylor, Republican, spoke with participants.  Taylor is vying for the United States Senate.
