There was plenty of live music performed on two stages, case Burt’s Chicken Fingers and Garlic Fries, diagnosis Deep-Fried Pretzels. Burt’s Bad @ss Burgers were served and, of course, beer, beer, BEER!

More than 20 different varieties of beer were sampled by a thirsty crowd of over 3,000. The selections came from came from local breweries in Ventura, Carpinteria and Santa Barbara and imported from Oregon and as far away as the Czech Republic.

Rincon brewery owners Shaun Crowley and partner Marco Gomez drove in from Carpinteria to pour their favorites. Unlike wine, Shaun said, beer only takes anywhere from twenty-one days to two and a half months to be ready to drink. Making great beer is the perfect business for impatient people!

The majority of the beers served were lagers and India pale ale (IPA). Grapefruit, lemon/lime and honey wheat were some of the most unique beers in the VIP lounge area. There was also a Margarita stand and several flavors of malt ale from Mike’s Hard Lemonade Company.

The owner of Poseidon Brewing Company in Ventura, Brian Oliver said he named his company Poseidon after the Greek Olympian “God of the Sea” because he served in the Navy as an underwater construction diver. After he retired, he opened the brewery simply because “I like beer”.

Brian says being an exhibitor at events like these is great for a micro brewery because it gives them the opportunity to introduce their beers to a larger audience while also giving something back to the community by supporting Food Share.
