Recent Residential Burglaries in Moorpark

Ventura County Sheriff Department – Incident Press Release

Within the last week, there have been two residential burglaries in Moorpark, one on Nelson Rd and the other on Bent Creek Rd.

At this time, it is unknown if the burglaries are related.

Moorpark Detectives are actively investigating both cases. Please remember to keep an eye out for suspicious people and vehicles in your neighborhoods. If you see something suspicious, immediately call dispatch at (805)654-9511 or 911.

There are several things you can do to help keep your property safe, including but not limited to the following:

– Always lock all doors and windows. Do not leave 2nd story windows open when you leave the house

– Install an alarm system and activate it every time you leave your house. Also, post a sign in your front yard/near the front door stating your home is protected by an alarm system.

– Install a video doorbell system

– Install lights at your front porch, driveway, and motion lights on side yards

– Lock your side gates – If you have a 2 story house, do not leave a ladder in your backyard

– Trim back all trees/shrubs which block the view of the front of your house. You want everyone driving and walking past your house to be able to see the front of your house.

– If you are going out of town, consider the following: – Put various lights/TVs in the house on timers that go on and off at random times so it appears as if someone is home and moving from room to room

– Tell your neighbors and friends you are going out of town and ask them to keep an eye on your residence

– Do not post on social media that you are going out of town and do not post photos of your vacation until you return from vacation. It is not uncommon for criminals to surf social media sites for people posting they are out of town

– Call the Moorpark Police Department at (805)532-2700 and request a vacation house check. Our Volunteers in Policing perform vacation house checks on a regular basis If you have any additional tips to share on how to keep your house safe, please reply to this post.
