Residential Burglaries in Moorpark and Eastern Ventura County Continue
Residential burglaries in eastern Ventura County, including Moorpark, have continued to be an issue. At this point, neighborhoods in gated communities seem to be targeted more than non-gated communities; however, non-gated communities have also experienced burglaries.
Moorpark PD Detectives are encouraging residents to pay close attention to vehicles in their neighborhood and immediately call 911 to report all suspicious vehicles and people. If you live in a gated community and you see an unfamiliar vehicle that follows you through the gates as you enter, please attempt to get a license plate number, vehicle description, and description of the driver and occupants, and immediately call 911. If you see an unfamiliar vehicle parked in your neighborhood, please immediately call 911. Detectives believe the suspects are conducting surveillance prior to the burglary, sometimes several days in advance. Once they see you leave, they commit the burglary. Burglaries have been committed on every day of the week, however the majority have occurred Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the evening time hours, mainly between 5-7pm. If you leave your home in the evening, even if you are planning to leave for a short period of time, leave lights and a television on, lock all doors, set your alarm systems, and ask neighbors to watch out for suspicious activity. I
n response to the recent burglaries, Moorpark PD patrol deputies and Volunteers in Policing have been directed to spend as much time as possible patrolling the neighborhoods. Also, additional resources have been deployed into the neighborhoods in an effort to prevent further burglaries and apprehend the suspects.
