Robbery at the Target on Main St. in Ventura: Police arrest suspect

On Saturday, 1-24-15 at approximately 2:15pm, Ventura Police patrol officers responded to the Target store located at 4200 E. Main St. regarding a robbery. Uniformed loss prevention officers for Target reported a black male suspect, later identified as 41 year old Lejon Peterson, was seen concealing merchandise in his backpack prior to leaving the store without paying. One of the loss prevention officers attempted to detain Peterson outside of the store and have him return to their office until the police could arrive.

Peterson ignored the loss prevention officer’s commands and kept walking away. When the officer tried to grab Peterson and stop him from leaving with the stolen merchandise, Peterson turned around and raised a metal rod over his head in a threatening manner. The loss prevention officer immediately backed away.

Peterson left, still in possession of the stolen merchandise and was located nearby by VPD patrol officers who were responding to the call. Peterson was still in possession of the stolen merchandise and the metal rod when he was arrested. He was  booked at the Ventura county jail for robbery. There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Ventura Police Department at 339-4309.
