Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release
On March 31st at 9am, the Ventura Police Command Center received a call reference a robbery that had just occurred from Walmart. The caller advised the suspect (later identified as Ivan Martinez), selected multiple items of merchandise from the store and exited without paying. When loss prevention officers contacted Martinez outside Walmart, he threatened to stab them.
The first unit arrived on-scene in less than two minutes and observed Martinez in the rear parking lot of Green Thumb on Victoria Ave. As the officer went to contact Martinez, he ran and after a short foot pursuit, he was detained. Loss prevention personnel responded and positively identified Martinez. The stolen merchandise was returned to Walmart.
Martinez was arrested for robbery (felony) and for two outstanding misdemeanor warrants. A search of the Ventura County Superior Court’s website shows Martinez has prior convictions for being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession on narcotics, vandalism and providing false information to the police.
