Salsa Festival performers recognized

By Janis Flippen

Editor’s note: We recognized the Oxnard Salsa Festival taste test winners this week. However, there were dozens and dozens of performers on stage at last week’s event, who also deserve recognition. Festival publicity agent Janis Flippen took on that task for us, as follows, below. We want to again thank Oxnard Downtowners for putting on this wonderful event and its sponsors for helping to make it all possible. These events take mucho money and organization to pull off.

[1:05 – Introduce Community Dance Showcase]

Welcome to our 2016 Salsa Festival Community Dance Showcase

Sponsored by La Fonda del Rey, ‘official After Party’ site at 5th & A St

The “salsero” community in Southern Cal is BIG – so many people in this region love to dance, and love our festival!

The Community Dance Showcase is our opportunity to showcase Southerna CA and 805 talent in front of our audience!

We want to thank La Fonda del Rey for sponsoring the Oxnard Salsa Festival’s Community Dance Showcase this year. If you haven’t been to La Fonda del Rey, it’s located on 5th & B Street. They offer great food & drinks, a big dance floor, music, salsa & bachatta lessons—La Fonda del Rey has everything a salsero/salsera needs and you need to check it out!

We also would like to recognize all of the dance studios and clubs that offer dance classes. If you are interested in finding out more about where to learn to dance, go to the Oxnard Salsa Festival website and click on ‘Learn to Dance”  We have information from several local dance studios and clubs that offer salsa, bachata or other dance lessons. Some of the dance studios that have supported the Oxnard Salsa festival this year are the Caliente Dance Studio here in Oxnard, Lovie’s Latin dance Studio in Santa Paula and The House of Dance in Ventura.
