A major medical association has backed out of holding its annual 15,000-attendee convention in San Francisco after a 20-pound bag of feces was dumped on a sidewalk in the city last week.
The unnamed, Chicago-based medical association’s decision to hold the convention elsewhere leaves San Francisco with a $40 million loss and the potential for even greater financial losses if other groups decide to follow suit.
According to NBC Bay Area, the convention business brings in approximately $2 billion in revenues for San Francisco annually.
The New York Post reported: “Human waste-related complaints in San Francisco have skyrocketed 400 percent from 2008 to 2018, according to data from the city’s 311 system.
