Sanders Campaign Announces Southern California People-Powered Steering Committee

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ campaign announced on Friday the formation of its Southern California steering committee. Made up of a diverse coalition of elected officials, organizational leaders and grassroots activists, the people-powered group has been mobilizing thousands of voters in the area and has been laying the groundwork for a Sanders victory in the state on June 7.
“Not since the Rainbow Coalition of 1988 have we seen such a diverse and progressive movement for the heart and soul of the Democratic Party,” said Los Angeles councilman Gil Cedillo. “Bernie Sanders will win California and we look forward to one of the most exciting Democratic conventions of our lifetimes.”

Former Los Angeles city councilman Bob Farrell and current Los Angeles city councilman Gil Cedillo will co-chair the steering committee.

“My support for Bernie Sanders stems from our shared experience of membership with the ‘Congress On Racial Equality’ during a time when students across the country took a stand against racial and social injustice,” said Farrell. “Bernie’s stance on the issues reflect where the people are, where they want to be and what kinds of policies should drive the programs and priorities of our nation.”

California will elect 475 pledged delegates on June 7, to head to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
