Santa Paula Police Department – Incident Press Release

On Saturday, May 19, 2018 at approximately 9:50 PM, Santa Paula Police officers responded to the 500 block of North Oak Street regarding a report of shots fired. Upon officer’s arrival, witnesses and victims were contacted. During the investigation, a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle drove pass the residence with its headlamps turned-off. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop to investigate further, but the vehicle failed to yield causing a police pursuit. The vehicle pulled over in the area of 7th Street and Virginia Terrace. One of the suspects from the vehicle fled on foot and with the assistance of the Ventura County Sheriff’s helicopter, the suspect was later located on the roof of a nearby shed. The suspect was later identified as 18-year old Andres Arredondo of Santa Paula. Once the suspect was taken into custody, a canvas search was conducted in the area in an attempt to locate evidence relating to the shooting. As a result of the search, a firearm was successfully located.

During the investigation, Mr. Arredondo admitted to detectives that he was in fact the shooter from Oak Street earlier in the day. Further investigation is ongoing.

Mr. Arredondo is a known gang member and it should also be noted that he is the brother of Severiano Arredondo, who was recently found guilty of two counts of assault with a firearm on a peace officer on June 29, 2012, in which he fired a handgun at two Santa Paula Police officers.
