SANTA PAULA, CA – You’re invited to the grand opening of the Santa Paula Art Museum’s new Cole Creativity Center on Saturday, August 18, 2018, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Guests of the event can take a tour of the Museum’s new building and experience a variety of creative activities for all ages including sidewalk art, maker stations, face painting, and more. Nationally renowned street and chalk artist Naomi Pitcairn will be leading the sidewalk art project! Plus, learn more about upcoming art classes at the Cole Creativity Center, enjoy the Museum’s current exhibitions, and grab a bite to eat at one of the food carts on-site. Admission is free for everyone.

The official unveiling of the Cole Creativity Center comes after an extensive ten-month renovation that transformed the 1954 former Santa Paula Savings and Loan building into a modern, accessible space where creativity is abundant, artists share and inspire, students discover and explore, imagination has no limit, all are welcome, and art creates community. The building was donated to the Santa Paula Art Museum by Mr. Lee Cole, whose late wife Jeanette was a beloved docent at the Museum. Mr. Cole, Mayor Ginger Gherardi, and other members of the Santa Paula City Council will be on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:45pm, just before the grand opening event on August 18. The now renovated Cole Creativity Center offers a much-needed space for the Museum’s growing educational programs, permanent art collection, and arts library. Art classes for children and adults began in early summer 2018 and will continue to be offered year-round. An upcoming schedule of classes can be found online at www.santapaulaartmuseum.org/creativity.

Attendees of the grand opening can enter a raffle to win one of three paintings by historic Santa Paula artists Cornelis Botke, Jessie Arms Botke, and Douglas Shively. Raffle tickets can be purchased during the event until 2:30pm, or online now at www.santapaulaartmuseum.org/grandopening. You do not have to be present at the event to win. The drawing will be held at 3:00pm during the grand opening celebration. You can also make a donation and have your name or the name of a loved one added to a permanent art installation inside the Cole Creativity Center. Donations can be made during the grand opening, or online now at www.santapaulaartmuseum.org/grandopening. All proceeds benefit the Cole Creativity Center.
