VENTURA, Calif. – District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced that charges were filed today, February 24, 2023, against Jose Emanuel Posadas (DOB 10/30/01), of Santa Paula, for the death of Joe Ramirez in Ventura.
Posadas, a known gang member, is charged with one count of murder and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The special allegation of having strike priors was also applied to both counts.
Posadas is accused of shooting Joe Ramirez on February 19, 2023, at a home on Mimosa Street in Ventura. The two had a verbal argument before the shooting. Posadas then fled to a home in Santa Paula, where he was arrested three days later.
Arraignment for the defendant was continued to March 24, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 13 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Posadas remains in custody without bail. Senior Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Nguyen, a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Major Crimes Homicides Unit, is the prosecutor handling the case.
