Santa Paula gang member sentenced to 16 years on firearms charge

erectile times;”>German Renteria (DOB 3/5/1990) of Santa Paula, seek was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Manuel Covarrubias to a term of 16 years in state prison for an assault with a semi-automatic firearm. Renteria was convicted by a jury on December 12, 2014. The jury also found Renteria guilty of special allegations charging the personal use of a firearm and a criminal street gang enhancement. Renteria was also convicted of possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in public. Renteria is a member of a criminal street gang in Santa Paula.
At trial, witnesses testified that Renteria pointed a semi-automatic firearm at the victim, who was dating the mother of Renteria’s children. Renteria pistol whipped the victim several times in the back of the head. Just before the attack, Renteria flashed gang signs attributed to his gang. When Santa Paula Police arrested Renteria one month later, he threw a loaded firearm into his neighbor’s yard. During the trial, Renteria absconded and remained at large when the verdict was announced. Deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Gang Unit arrested Renteria in Camarillo just hours after the guilty verdict was read.
