Santa Paula PD catch thief using photograph taken by alert neighbor

On Monday February 24, 2015, at approximately 11:57am SPPD Officers were dispatched to the area of Elfred Court and Laurie Lane in the city of Santa Paula regarding a theft of packages from the front porch of a nearby residence.

Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect. An empty package from the residence was located nearby with the contents removed. A nearby resident witnessed the theft and was able to take a photograph of the suspect leaving the area. The photograph provided to the officers showed the suspect with package in hand and the suspect wearing very distinct clothing, while fleeing the area.

A subject was later located nearby at Harvard Blvd and Laurie lane wearing clothing very similar to that of the suspect in the photograph. Further investigation by the officers resulted in the arrest of the subject identified as Ivan Rizo, age 24 of Santa Paula. Rizo admitted to taking the property from the residence and admitted to discarding the items he took in a trashcan that was subsequently picked up by the trash company.  The victim’s property was not returned to them because of this. Thanks to the vigilant efforts by the nearby residents and their desire to keep the community safe, the theft suspect was caught and arrested. The suspect was booked and charged with 484(a) PC, theft.
