    Santa Paula | Suspect arrested after Vehicle Pursuit along SR 126

    Santa Paula Police Department – Incident Press Release

    On 07/22/20 at approximately 12:16 AM a Santa Paula Police Officer initiated a traffic stop of a black Nissan in the 100 block of N 8th St for a vehicle code violation. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver’s hands were moving and were partially concealed. The officer gave commands for the driver, the only vehicle occupant, to show his hands. The driver accelerated away, did a u-turn, and drove directly at the officer. The officer narrowly avoided being struck by the vehicle. Multiple Santa Paula officers initiated a pursuit of the vehicle through the streets of Santa Paula, entering the westbound SR126 at Palm Avenue. The vehicle executed a u-turn and began driving eastbound at officers in the westbound lanes.

    The vehicle exited the freeway using the Palm Avenue on ramp, and proceeded westbound on Harvard Bl. The vehicle entered the westbound SR126 at Faulkner Road and traveled at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Area agencies were notified of the incident while it was in progress. Santa Paula officers pursued the vehicle to the US 101 northbound at Seaward before the pursuit was terminated.

    The Officer who made the initial traffic stop was able positively identify the driver as Arnulfo Villanueva DOB 08/05/1985. A Probable Cause Want was completed for the arrest of Villanueva for 245(a)(1) PC Assault With a Deadly Weapon Not a Firearm and 2800.2 VC Felony Evading. At approximately 1000 hours a Santa Paula officer was patrolling the west area of Santa Maria St., in an effort to locate Villanueva. He was observed on foot near Dartmouth and Santa Maria and was taken into custody without incident. He was booked for the above referenced charges and transported to the Ventura County Main Jail.
