Santa Paula Police Department – Incident Press Release

On Friday, February 15, 2019 at approximately 8:04 PM, Santa Paula Police officers responded to an injury accident in the 100 block of E. Santa Maria Street, where a solo vehicle had collided head on with a light pole.  Witnesses who were on scene informed officers that the driver, a 32-year old male resident of Santa Paula, had fled the scene walking westbound on Santa Maria Street.  Officers were eventually able to locate the subject.  A vehicle passenger, a 30-year old male resident of Santa Paula, was located still in the vehicle with moderate injuries, but had to be extricated by Ventura County Fire Department personnel.  Both the driver and passenger sustained injuries in the collision and were transported to the Ventura County Medical Center.  Investigation is ongoing from the Santa Paula Police and officers are also working towards determining if alcohol played a factor in the vehicle collision.

Both the driver and passenger were released due to receiving extensive medical treatment.

Further investigation through a Preliminary Alcohol Screening (PAS) test revealed that the driver had a BAC level above .08%, but because the driver and passenger both sustained injuries in the collision, they were transported to Ventura County Medical Center for medical treatment.  The driver will be arrested once they are released from the hospital, pending a search warrant,  driver will be arrested with a search warrant.
