Santa Paula Vice Mayor, Martin Hernandez to run for Supervisor Kathy Long’s seat in 2016

Martin Hernandez, Vice Mayor of The City of Santa Paula and Chief of Staff to Ventura County Supervisor Kathy Long, announced today that he will run for the open Third District Supervisor seat being vacated by Supervisor Kathy Long in 2016. Martin Hernandez, a long-time resident of Santa Paula and native of Ventura County, will run to bring his experience he has gained during the last 14 years in county government. The knowledge has prepared him to hit the ground running to address current regional issues of importance like; public safety, healthcare, and managing our natural resources.

“I am grateful for the opportunities afforded me during my time working for Supervisor Long. “ said Martin. “The network and relationships created over the years throughout our County and State places me in a unique position to bring resources when needed. “

A long-time resident of Santa Paula, Martin Hernandez ran for City Council in 2012 and won by overwhelming support. Since taking office he has worked to ensure that the constituents of Santa Paula have had access to the council and are engaged in the decision making process. The City has balanced it’s budget since he has been on Council and purchased back the privately owned water reclamation plant saving residents on their monthly bills.

“I have worked with Martin Hernandez and found his work ethic is tenacious and his connection with the community is second to none. I am certain he will well represent every community member.” Said Police Chief Jeri Williams. “During my tenure as County Supervisor I have come to know Martin as someone with the highest level of integrity and compassion for serving the public. I can’t think of anyone better with a tenacious and energetic quality to serve as County Supervisor for the Third District. I fully support Martin as the Third District County Supervisor.” John C. Martin has served as part of Supervisor Long’s staff since December of 2001. Prior to that he was the Director of the Santa Paula Family Resource Center and, has also served as an Addiction Treatment specialist with Ventura County Behavioral Health Department. Martin is a Veteran having served as a medic in the United States Air Force. He is the proud father of four sons, one deceased. One of his twin sons is also a veteran having completed his services in the Marines and the other twin son is currently serving with the US Army and is stationed at Ft. Gordon in Georgia. His eldest son is in Civil Service currently assigned to the testing range at Edwards Air Force Base. Martin and his wife Holly have just celebrated 20 years of marriage and are the proud grandparents of five beautiful grandchildren.

The Third Supervisorial District is made up of Santa Paula, Fillmore, Piru, Port Hueneme, Camarillo and portions of South Oxnard and unincorporated areas in between.
