SEEAG’s Kids-To-Farms Benefit Brunch Draws Big Crowd

More than 160 people attended a Kids-To-Farm Benefit Brunch April 9 at the Camarillo Ranch. The event raised almost $20,000 to support Students For Eco-Education & Agriculture’s (SEEAG) agriculture education programs in Ventura County. Part of the proceeds from the brunch also went to Future Farmers of America.

Money raised enables SEEAG to continue to support and expand its Farm Lab at Petty Ranch in Saticoy. Field trips to the ranch teach elementary-age students about the connection between agriculture and the foods they eat using STEM-based, hands-on activities. SEEAG provides free transportation for all its program participants.

Attendance at the brunch included Stan Mantooth, Ventura County Superintendent of Schools, Maryanne Rooney, Port of Hueneme Harbor commissioner, Rob Roy, president of Ventura County Agricultural Association, Soren Bjorn, Driscoll’s executive vide-president and many others in education and the agricultural industry.

“It’s through their enthusiastic involvement that makes our programs possible,” says Mary Maranville, SEEAG’s founder and executive director.

SEEAG also puts on Ventura County Farm Day, a community event in which over 20 Ventura County farms open their doors to the public. This year’s Farm Day will be Saturday, November 4.

About SEEAG

Founded in 2008, Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG) aims to help young students understand the origins of their food by bridging the gap between agriculture and consumption through its agricultural education programming. SEEAG’s “The Farm Lab” program based in Ventura County teaches school children about the origins of their food and the importance of local farmland by providing schools with classroom agricultural education and free field trips to farms. Through this program, over 15,000 elementary school students in Southern California have increased their understanding of the food journey.
