SEIU Local 721 Endorses Carla Castilla for Supervisor

Support from local organized labor groups continues to grow for Carla Castilla’s bid to replace Kathy Long in the 3rd Supervisorial District. Members of The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 721 today endorsed Carla Castilla for Supervisor, calling her a leader who will stand up for the working moms and dads to secure a better future for their families.

“I’m proud that SEIU 721 members chose to endorse Carla,” said Grace Sepulveda, SEIU 721 Tri-Counties VP Executive Board member and Client Benefit Specialist II for the County of Ventura. “In my job, we work with the most vulnerable populations in our County. Carla has shown that she is compassionate and that she will fight for a better future for working families so that we can all enjoy the beauty of Ventura County.”

SEIU 721 represents county and city employees across Southern California, including Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties and numerous cities in the region, as well as employees of special districts and publicly-funded non-profits such as health clinics.

“As a former SEIU Political Coordinator this endorsement is particularly meaningful to me. I am proud to receive the support from the hard working men and women of Local 721,” said Castilla. “Together we stand up for working families in Ventura County. It is important that working people are ensured adequate pay, good benefits, and the ability for advancement.”

Last week the Castilla campaign announced the endorsement from another local labor group, International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 46 which represents workers at the Port of Hueneme.

Carla Castilla currently serves as the District Director for State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson. She previously worked as a representative to Congresswoman Lois Capps and as an aide in the White House under the Clinton Administration. She is a former member of the Ventura County Workforce Investment Board, and she has a long history of involvement with local non-profit and community groups, especially those that focus on education, civic engagement, and the empowerment of women.
Carla has worked on a wide range of issues such as the recently passed California Clean Energy and Pollution Reduction Act and the California Fair Pay Act.
Additional endorsements Carla Castilla has received for her campaign include: Congresswoman Lois Capps; Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson; Former Ventura County Supervisor Susan Lacey; Oxnard Mayor Pro-Temp Carmen Ramirez; Ventura Mayor Cheryl Heitmann; Former Port Hueneme Mayor Maricela Morales; Former Port Hueneme Mayor Murray Rosenbluth; Civic Leaders, Henry “Hank” & Leah Lacayo; *partial list.

Ventura County’s 3rd Supervisorial District includes the communities of Camarillo, Port Hueneme, Southeast Oxnard, East Oxnard Plain, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Piru, East Lockwood Valley, and Eastern Portion of Naval Base Ventura County Port Hueneme. To learn more about Carla’s campaign visit

With an SEIU endorsement, you can be assured she will support unsustainable benefit packages for Union members on the backs of taxpayers.
