Sentencing in Chinese Sex Ring – 8 years 8 months

Jiuyin Cui (DOB 3/19/1953), of Rosemead, was sentenced to 8 years 8 months in state prison for his role in the criminal organization that transported Chinese women to various counties to engage in sex acts.  Cui was also ordered to pay fines of $500,000 for human trafficking and $50,000 for money laundering.

In February 2016, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective went online and located an advertisement on the ad portal Backpage.com under the Ventura County section labeled “escorts.”  The advertisement listed the location of service as Camarillo, California.  Sheriff’s deputies called the number to inquire about the services.  A female, Defeng Hu, answered the phone and directed the deputy to the hotel room.

In May 2016, deputies authored a request for electronic interception of communication between several target subjects.  Detectives learned that the prostitution ring transported Asian women to various counties up and down the state of California, putting them up in hotel rooms to engage in prostitution. 

Detectives also learned that Hu created ads on Backpage.com soliciting adult services in several counties.  Detectives determined that Jerry Wang was the mastermind behind this criminal organization.  Wang paid for advertisements on Backpage.com, deposited money into various bank accounts, and then had his sister purchase real property from the money earned through the criminal organization. Cui was the main driver who transported the women to various motels to perform sex acts.  The investigation led to the arrest of four defendants.

Jerry Wang (DOB 6/4/1976) was sentenced last week to 12 years 8 months in state prison for his role in the criminal organization.  Wang was also ordered to pay fines of $500,000 for human trafficking and $250,000 for money laundering.

Defeng Hu (DOB 7/4/1983) was sentenced on April 5, 2017, to 11 years 4 months for her role in the criminal organization.  She was also ordered to pay fines totaling just over $900,000. 

Yiwen Wang (DOB 1/1/1974), Jerry Wang’s sister, pled guilty in December 2016 to money laundering and tax evasion.  She is serving a jail sentence of 3 years 8 months.
