Serious accident in Oxnard: Teakwood and J Streets

On Thursday, August 4, 2016, at about 11:37 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to the intersection of Teakwood Street and J Street in reference to an injury traffic collision involving two vehicles and a motorcycle. 

Preliminary investigation indicates that the white Honda Accord, driven by Addy Rafaela Toyub, was traveling southbound on J Street and made a left turn onto eastbound Teakwood Street. The red Yamaha motorcycle, driven by Mario Hilario Olvera Fernandez, was traveling northbound on J Street towards Teakwood Street. The red GMC Yuikon was parked unoccupied on the south side of Teakwood Street just east of J Street. Surveillance video from a nearby residence showed that the motorcyclist failed to stop for a posted stop sign at the intersection of J Street and Teakwood Street and broadsided the Honda. The collision caused Fernandez to be ejected from the Yamaha.

Fernandez was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries sustained from the collision. Toyub was not injured as a result of the collision. Fernandez was wearing a full face motorcycle helmet at the time of the collision.

It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are factors in the collision. 

The roadway was closed during the scene investigation but has been reopened.

The collision is still under investigation.
