Sex Offender Sweep in Camarillo and Thousand Oaks – 3 Arrests Made

On 4/12/2019 Ventura County PROS Unit in partnership with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office High Tech Task Force, organized a technology compliance check of sex offenders in the City of Camarillo and Thousand Oaks. The offenders searched were on active CDCR State Parole and/or Probation in the County of Ventura. With the support of Santa Paula Police Department, State Parole, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Ventura County Probation Agency, Ventura Police Department and Naval Criminal Investigative Service, officers conducted sixteen home visits. Of the sixteen offenders inspected, fourteen were found in violation. Violations found included the possession of sexually explicit material, utilizing social media, possession of child pornography, and possession of weapons and ammunition. Depending on the seriousness of the violation, offenders’ electronic devices were seized, they were arrested or their cases were referred to local agencies for further investigation. The following suspects were arrested on scene:

    Ruben Ayala 7/27/75

    Shawn Lafferty 3/16/62

I am confused…. it would appear all these individuals are on active parole or probation. What exactly is it that warrants an article about local and state parole offices doing their job – that they get paid to do, by me, the tax payer?

And what about probation / parole checks on all other criminals? If this group deserves special mention, why not Ventura County’s murderers, bank robbers, drug dealers, wife beaters, drunk drivers, burglars, etc etc?

    Very confusing…
