Sheriff arrests suspect for manslaughter in Oak View heroin overdose death

Investigators from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit (PCU) investigated Wilson’s death and identified Oak View resident 32 year old Dayn Manson as the source of heroin.

On February 17, 2016, the Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit concluded its investigation into Wilson’s death with the presentation of the case to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office who filed a criminal complaint charging Manson with manslaughter and sales of heroin with an enhancement of causing great bodily injury. An arrest warrant was issued for Dayn Manson and he was located in the City of Ventura and arrested.

Manson was booked into custody at the Ventura County Main Jail. His bail was set at $50,000 and his court date is pending.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Office West County Patrol assisted in the arrest of Manson.

The Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit is a task force made up of members from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Simi Valley Police Department, Thousand Oaks Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation, the California Highway Patrol, the Health Quality Investigation Unit of the California Division of Investigation, and the California Department of Health Care Services. The primary mission of the task force is combating the transfer of legal prescription medication to the illegal market. In addition, the task force works to identify and stop new trends of abuse among the younger population and investigates overdose deaths due to both prescription medication and illicit drug use.
